It also rattles and, on occasion simply falls open: The actual issue is that the spring return latches within the door itself (not the frame) do not spring back out once pushed in by the door open mechanism. I screwed open the glove box and sprayed some oil on the mechanical parts, now it works again. The wheel in the middle was crucial in my case. To open the glove box there are 3 screws, one is behind the button to open the box.
